New Piquadro bags contain tracking device

Italian leathergoods company Piquadro has launched a collection of bags that can warn the owner if they are moved without their knowledge.

The Black Square collection includes laptops and backpacks made from Tuscan leather.

They contain a small coin-sized tracking device inside a leather tag, which can be connected to a smart phone via Bluetooth. It will sound an alarm if the back moves away from the phone, alerting the owner to a potential theft. The geolocation device also means the bag can be easily located if it is misplaced.

Piquadro is working on another innovation for future products. It will allow a bag to be used to recharge a phone, as well as having the ability to weigh itself, especially useful when boarding a flight.
