No more time for Hazaribagh

03/01/2017
Bangladesh’s industry ministry has warned tanners that they will not be allowed to process raw hides at the Hazaribagh tanning cluster after January 31. This is the latest in a long series of government moves to encourage leather producers to complete the transition to the new tanning cluster at Savar.

Production at Hazaribagh should stop altogether by the end of March, the ministry has said.

Only 37 tanneries have completed the move to Savar from Hazaribagh so far. The message from the government now is that the others will not be given any more time.
