Tannery of the Year: industry awaits results of fifth competition

The 2016 winner of the Tannery of the Year competition will be announced during a gala dinner in Hong Kong, as the world’s leading tanneries and suppliers gather for the Asia Pacific Leather Fair.

On March 30, our finalists from Europe, China, Asia (excluding China), the Americas and Africa will join the celebration of good practice and excellent corporate social responsibility at the event in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Detailed reports on all the finalists have featured in World Leather over the past year, and will be available in a comprehensive Tannery of the Year 2015/2016 book. They can also be downloaded as pdfs (£1 for non-subscribers) from the leatherbiz Technical Library.

All have been nominated for the impressive standards and working methods, with a particular focus on how they look after the environment, their workers and even their local communities.

Tannery of the Year was established in 2009 to celebrate the production of leather and to help promote the material’s use in footwear, furniture, car and aeroplane interiors, handbags and other accessories, gloves and other applications.

This year marks the programme’s fifth cycle of 18 months.

The awards dinner is open to all, with tickets available from the leatherbiz shop.

This year’s finalists are:

• Atlantic Leather, Iceland
• Couro do Norte, Brazil
• Kings International, India
• Tärnsjö Garveri, Sweden
• Wickett & Craig of America, US
• White Nile, Sudan
• Xinji Meihua, China
• Zhejiang Dazhong Leather, China

Special thanks to Tannery of the Year sponsor Buckman.

We shall announce the global winner, as well as the regional winners and the recipient of the Innovation of the Year award, live from the event next Wednesday.

Good luck to all the finalists!
