Italy: €100,000 of leather stolen from tannery

Italian press have reported that he Valpel tannery in Santa Croce has become the latest victim of robbery, as thieves made off with around €100,000 worth of finished leather. 

The area is home to a number of tanneries, but is relatively isolated at night, say the reports.  

A number of tanneries have reported large thefts of leather since last summer. Police are investigating. 

Valpel is a family owned business that specialises in vegetable tanning for the upholstery sector.
