Kering-owned tannery Blutonic has reopened following a fire in August.

Work at the Ponte a Egola business has included the reconstruction of machinery as well as repairing structural damage.

Co-owner Angelo Montanelli confirmed they have an ambitious order book and are ready to begin.

He told local press: "We are ready to go with even more modern facilities. We have overcome those weaknesses that led to the fire.”

Blutonic has been at the forefront of its Kering’s sustainability aims in recent years.

It is trialling a system to trace all hides, and Gucci said it is intending to roll out the process to most of its leather suppliers.
