Mystery surrounding fire at Gucci tannery

It has been suggested that the fire might have started in the finishing department on the ground floor and could have been exacerbated by the chemicals.
Blutonic is owned by Gucci owner Kering, and has been at the forefront of its sustainability aims in recent years.
It is trialling a system to trace all hides, and Gucci is intending to roll out the process to most of its leather suppliers this year.
Tannery owner Angelo Montanelli told local press the drums were filled with water as it is closed for the summer break.
“We have to figure out if there was an electrical problem or if there are other causes,” he said. “I do not know what to think; ours is one of the most modern tanneries in the area.”
