Gucci warns Hong Kong stores over replicas

Luxury goods maker Gucci has warned stores in Hong Kong not to sell paper replicas of its products as offerings to the dead.

Paper items such as money, houses, handbags and shoes are often burnt next to the tombs of ancestors in the belief that they can be enjoyed in the afterlife.

"We fully respect the funeral context and we trust that the store owners did not have the intention to infringe Gucci's trademark. Thus a letter was sent on an informational basis to let these stores know about the products they were carrying, and by asking them to stop selling those items,” Gucci Hong Kong said in a statement.
