Leather companies hope to capitalise on ‘Make in Britain’ ethos
Pittards and English Leather Company have joined leathergoods brands at the London-based Meet the Manufacturer event, aimed at boosting UK manufacturing.

The two-day conference and trade show also features textile and apparel makers and offers retailers, designers and brands the opportunity to develop supply chains in the UK, according to organisers.

Both Pittards and leather finisher English Leather reported plenty of interest at the show and growing demand for UK leathers.

Leathergoods companies including belt-maker Mowbray, equestrian specialist Bliss of London, Atlas Works and its brand Ruxx, and Midlands-based Abreption all spoke of a renewed interest from retailers in sourcing locally.

Dr Martens chairman David Suddens is addressing the conference today (June 4) on his experiences of working in the UK versus offshore.

We will look at the subject in more detail in the next issue of World Leather.
