Italy: Sole leather tannery imparts know-how

19/05/2015
Leather industry students haven taken a tour around Italian tannery Gi-Emme-Elle to learn about sole leather as part of their studies at the ITC Cattaneo of San Miniato.

The tannery in Ponte a Egola, Italy, uses traditional slow tanning techniques to produce 280,000 square-metres of leather per year.

The Italian federation of the chemical industry, Federchimica, sponsored the fact-finding visit.

Domenico Castiello, president of leather research centre Poteco, and Simone Remi, chairman of the vegetable-tanned leather consortium, were also in attendance.
