European leather chemicals companies turn over €48 billion - report

A market research firm has estimated that the number of people in the European Union employed in the leather chemicals and related goods sectors is 435,000.

Companies and Markets has said there are 36,000 companies in the sector, and they generate a turnover of €48 billion.

It has also said 41% of leather produced at EU tanneries is destined for the footwear sector, 17% is for furniture, 13% is for automotive, 19% for leathergoods, 8% for clothes and 2% for miscellaneous leather products.
