Six months on, Stahl gets approval for Clariant acquisition in Brazil

Leather chemicals manufacturer Stahl has announced that, although it completed its acquisition of the leather business unit of rival manufacturer Clariant in April 2014, it took a further six months for it to complete the transfer of Clariant’s leather services business in Brazil.

Stahl announced at the start of November that it had finalised the transfer of Clariant’s Brazilian business and explained later to leatherbiz that the delay was down to a “different regulatory environment” in the South American country. “To get permits takes longer in Brazil,” it said.

The company has now taken over all the activities of Clariant’s leather services business, including manufacturing sites in Germany, Italy and India and laboratories in several other locations and 570 former Clariant employees have come into Stahl’s employment. It now has more than 1,800 employees at 11 manufacturing sites and 38 laboratories in 23 countries.
