Zschimmer & Schwarz makes wet-end chemicals acquisition

12/01/2015
German leather chemicals manufacturer Zschimmer & Schwarz has announced the acquisition of the wet-end leather auxiliaries business of Italian manufacturer Lamberti-Unichem in Italy. The leather finishing business of Lamberti-Unichem is not part of the acquisition.

Zschimmer & Schwarz said the wet end business of Lamberti-Unichem is a good fit with its own set-up and will be integrated into the existing leather auxiliaries division of the company. The companies expect completion of the deal, which includes all customer relationships, by February 1, 2015.

Manufacture of Lamberti-Unichem wet-end products will, “for a transition period”, continue to take place at the Italian group’s production facilities but will be transferred gradually to Zschimmer & Schwarz.

Lamberti-Unichem will continue with the development of its leather finishing business and has said it is aiming to grow its market share by focusing on core technologies, in particular water-based synthetic polymer chemistry such as plyurethane dispersions and acrylic-based polymers.
