New liquid tanning agent from TFL

Leather chemicals group TFL has introduced a new liquid astringent tanning agent, Sellatan Hat Liq, which it says is especially suitable for producing tight and compact leather articles, even with “challenging raw material quality”.

“It provides exceptional fullness with a tight, uniform grain break for shoe, handbag and automotive articles,” the company said of the product at the time of the launch. “Tight grain and fullness are prerequisites for excellent embossing results, optimising cutting yield.”

Concentrated syntans normally come in powder form, making automatic dosing difficult, TFL continued, and increasing salt levels in waste water. Other benefits that it highlighted are that Sellatan Hat Liq also has a low formaldehyde and phenol content and makes a minimal contribution to total dissolved solids. For this reason, it said the new liquid tanning agent will work well with its TFL White Line technology in producing chromium-free leather.
