Chemicals manufacturer Lanxess has unveiled leather trends for spring-summer 2016. Its new water-based Aquaderm X-Pigments, which have been developed for premium leather applications, were used.

The first trend it calls “Modern Dynamic”. It uses soft nappa leather, bright colours, dull pearl finishes and lustrous mono-colour surfaces. “There is a growing desire for a more practical, functional lifestyle with clothing to match,” suggests Lanxess.

“Sport Attitude” can be portrayed through frosted or matt satin metallic finishes, dull metallic rubber, kaleidoscopic prints, irregular perforations and clean cuts. “Sportswear is transforming itself to combine with glamour and the city-day look,” it says.

The “Keep Calm” trend uses light padding and minimal quilting, fine perforations and light nappa in pale pink and salmon shades.

“From 70s to today” will be seen through suede, a mix of colours, denim effects and lustrous textures. “Floral motifs with a vintage, yet sophisticated feel, with warm tones and cool combinations.”

The leather unit is part of Lanxess’ Performance Chemicals division, which achieved sales of €2.13 billion in fiscal 2013.
