An apprentice at UK leathergoods group Pittards, owner of an Ethiopia-based tannery and finished goods factory, has been shortlisted out of 1,000 for an award.

Kevin Drogan, who is completing his first year of a leathergoods apprenticeship, was nominated as Intermediate Apprentice of the Year in the Arts and Technology category in the Bridgwater College awards.

Pittards has recruited 15 apprentices since 2013 in leather production, leathergoods production and in its maintenance departments and, working with the local college as its training provider, intends to continue this process of “rejuvenation of its workforce” in the coming years, it said.
