Lincoln promotes Eagle Ottawa’s contribution to latest high-end series
Car marque Lincoln has promoted high-quality leather from Eagle Ottawa as part of the marketing for its new Black Label customisation series – but also uses Alcantara and describes it as a “rare material”.

The tannery group's director of global tanning technology, Ralph Maendle, is featured on Lincoln's website explaining the values of leather. “To me a good hide is when it still feels very natural, when you feel the surface and feel the hair pores and it’s warm – that’s a sign of authenticity.”

He said only about 1% of hides in the market are suitable for Black Label, with the ‘Venetian’ leather used the softest Eagle Ottawa makes. “Accuracy is very important for automotive leather,” he explains. “We used extra process steps like the double drying of the leather.”

Lincoln says: “Black Label was created for individuals who are drawn to a certain kind of craftsmanship; those who appreciate the significance of space inside a seam, the warmth of a premium leather, and delicate touch of a fine-quality fabric.”

Thirty-two dealerships in six US states will be Black Label-certified, providing “personalised shopping and special privileges with dedicated personnel in the showroom, online or in locations more convenient for customers”. Black Label is only available on the two latest Lincolns, but is expected to be rolled out on other models.
