Ford to sell luxury Lincoln brand in China

30/08/2012
Ford is to launch its premium marque Lincoln into the Chinese market, to capitalise on demand for luxury goods - good news for its leather supplier, Bridge of Weir, whose leather trimmed seating is used in the models.

The leather is “unembossed for natural beauty and grain” and made with environmentally sustainable by-products, according to Lincoln.

The car brand's sales peaked in 1990 but it has since lagged competitors due to lack of investment.

Ford is planning to offer the cars in China from the second half of 2014, initially imported from the US. It would consider manufacturing the cars there if there was enough demand, according to its chief executive, Alan Mulally.
