India’s Council for Leather Exports (CLE) has set up a two-day meeting between its member companies and potential buyers in South Africa. The event will take place in Cape Town on March 13 and 14.

CLE’s main aim is to boost Indian leather-sector exports to South Africa. The value of shipments of Indian-produced leather, footwear and leathergoods to South Africa rose from $22.4 million in 2008 to almost $41.2 million in 2011. However, the total reduced in 2012 to just over $35 million.

It hopes 30 exporting companies will travel to Cape Town to take part. Funding is available through a central government programme called Market Access Initiative.
