Ethiopia: Tanneries to relocate to Modjo

28/01/2014
The 30 tanneries in Ethiopia might be expected to relocate to the site of a common effluent plant in Modjo within three years, or build their own waste disposal facilities.

The Leather Industry Development Institute (LIDI) is to start building the $42 million plant 70km from the capital Addis Ababa and says relocation will be voluntary but cost effective.

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) could help to finance the project, alternatively the Ethiopian government will provide the money, said a LIDI representative.
