Every year the Icelandic tannery sponsors promising young designers who want to make fish leather a part of their success.
Mexico-born Ernesto Hinojosa pursued his postgraduate studies at Centria University in Jakobstad/Pietarsaari in Finland, to follow his passion for exotic Nordic materials.
"With markets moving furiously towards eco-design, in Atlantic Leather's fish leather I have found the perfect solution that embodies luxury, beauty and sustainability," said Mr Hinojosa.
Atlantic Leather sales manager María Magnúsdóttir visited Mr Hinojosa’s studio last summer. "It was like coming into the test lab of a mad scientist, playing out his ideas on how to use fish leather in ways that have never been done before," she said.
The jury commended Mr Hinojosa for his "ability to combine ecological thinking with haute couture”.
