A senior figure in the Italian leather industry has denied any wrongdoing after the authorities accused him of tax evasion.

Giuseppe Valter Peretti, who runs the highly regarded Cristina tannery in Montebello and is head of the leather industry segment of Italy’s multi-industry association Confindustria, has been accused of avoiding tax by presenting false invoices in his company’s accounts for 2007 and 2008.

In response, Mr Peretti has told local media: “I completely refute these charges and I will be able to prove that this has nothing to do with me. I feel calm about the whole thing. I have nothing to fear.”
