Hebei Leather Industry Association to host local fashion week

Local media have reported that Hebei fashion week, due to take place from September 17 through 23 in Shijiazhuang, will be jointly hosted by Hebei Leather Industry Association and Hebei E-Commerce Association this year.

To launch proceedings in the run-up to the event, a ceremony was held to inaugurate a guochao pavilion in mid-June.

Guochao, meaning “national wave”, refers to trend-led, homegrown Chinese brands that seem to straddle both contemporary fashion and nostalgic, nationalistic sentiment. The phrase was originally coined in 2018 following local sportwear brand Li-Ning’s showcase at Paris fashion week.

Reportedly, the intention is to display a mix of original, yet commercial designs (as well as “national fashion”), with the theme for 2021 being that of communicating locals’ desire to tell Hebei’s fashion stories to the rest of the world.

Larger than previous iterations, over 40 fashion shows and exhibitions will be held over the course of the seven days. A “new” model for fashion weeks will be proposed, Chinese media said, which will take the form of both online and in-person presentations, plus e-commerce-enabled purchases.

The week will additionally see the seventh Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei international sewing equipment and textile industry expo held in Shijiazhuang, while the second Hebei fashion e-commerce conference will take place inside Xinji International Leather City, also in Shijiazhuang.
