Baiyun Leather City aims for ‘fashion capital’ status

09/11/2020

During an economic development seminar, Guangzhou’s Baiyun Leather City complex unveiled plans to focus on nurturing its fashion ‘brand’ credentials.

The self-proclaimed “fashion city” - a shopping, dining and leisure destination - seeks to become an “international fashion capital”, in line with Guangzhou’s own ambitions to improve its fashion-related soft power on the global stage.

One speaker at the symposium described the conference as a “historic” moment in Baiyun Leather City’s development, while another urged for increased “confidence” in Baiyun’s products and stressed the need for the leather city to become a “cultural centre” for leathergoods, in order to establish a “national brand” which better reflects its “world-class” craftsmanship and technology.

The need for the complex to harness the power of influencers and live, shoppable online broadcasts for stronger self-promotion during this new era of development was also stressed.
