Mulberry’s revenue hit by disruption at UK retailer

20/06/2019
UK-based leathergoods brand Mulberry has reported sales of £166.3 million for the year ended March 30, a fall of 2% compared to the previous 12-month period. The company made a loss of £5 million, compared to a profit of £6.9 million in the 2017/18 financial year.

Much of this loss was down to the collapse towards the end of 2018 of department store group House of Fraser, which has since been rescued. As a result of this disruption, Mulberry closed four concessions it had within stores.

This contributed to a 6% fall in its revenue from the UK, although the brand said sales in its home market were up 4% in the second half of the reported year. Overall, its online sales were up 27% year-on-year.

Mulberry also reported that in the 11 weeks since the end of the year, its total retail sales have risen 13%, including 7% growth in the UK.
