Walpole, the official body for the UK luxury industry, has issued an appeal to the UK government to negotiate a “pro-business” exit from the European Union (Brexit) in order to safeguard the future of this sector.

Helen Brockelbank, Walpole CEO, said: “We urge the government, once famous for being the party of business, to deliver a pro-enterprise Brexit, enabling our members to protect jobs in the UK and continue to promote Brand Britain around the world. “

She added: “For the small or medium businesses and entrepreneurs, the ramifications of a hard Brexit could be ruinous and poses a risk to the country’s prosperity and the value of Brand Britain.”

Walpole’s members come from a range of luxury sub-sectors. They include automotive groups Bentley and Rolls-Royce and fashion groups Burberry, Church’s, Jimmy Choo and Mulberry.
