South African tannery makes solar energy commitment

04/06/2019
South African tannery Klein Karoo has set up a 600 square-metre solar energy system and has converted its heating systems on to the grid.

The move has been promoted by Soltrain, an initiative to increase solar thermal energy in southern Africa.

Klein Karoo is one of the country’s largest producers of ostrich meat and leather, and sources from more than 800 farmers.

Its proposed merger with counterpart Mosstrich has so far been blocked by the Competition Commission.
