Klein Karoo achieves milestone

05/11/2007

In spite of what it termed as “extremely difficult operational conditions”, turnover at South African ostrich meat and leather producer Klein Karoo Group exceeded the R1 billion ($152.01 million) mark for the first time in the company’s history in fiscal 2007.

Net profit before tax amounted to R25.6 million, up from R20.5 million in the prior financial year, which, according to chairman, Piet Kleyn, was the result of a “sustained focus on reducing production costs” and the “growth of new business”, as production and the slaughter actually declined during the year.

As the largest supplier of ostrich products to the international market, Klein Karoo meets approximately 60% of world demand for ostrich leather.
