Tannery of the Year is a competition launched by World Leather in 2009 to celebrate examples of excellence in the tanning industry, with the focus on sustainability and corporate social responsibility. Every 18 months, two finalists from each of five regions (Africa, the Americas, China, the rest of Asia and Europe) gather at an elite venue to celebrate their success as beacons of best practice and as companies creating jobs and wealth for their communities, while caring for the environment, maintaining excellent relations with the authorities, and, of course, producing beautiful leather. Independent judges at the final will choose a Tannery of the Year for each of the five regions and, from these five, one overall Tannery of the Year.

The inaugural winner of Tannery of the Year was the Ethiopia Tannery Share Company.
