Dutch leather industry consortium heads to Zimbabwe

Chemicals company Stahl is among Dutch companies hosting a two-day workshop in Bulawayo to offer tanners and leathergoods companies advice on building their businesses.

PUM, an organisation made up of senior executives from Dutch companies who offer advice for free, travelled to Zimbabwe to take part in the event hosted by The National Trade Development and Promotion Organisation of Zimbabwe, ZimTrade. The pair have been collaborating since 2016.

PUM also includes representatives of Mendelson & Frost, Solidaridad network, IM- Innovating of Netherlands and Mimosa Extracting Company.

According to government figures, Zimbabwe exported $18.6 million of leather and leather products in 2010, rising to $36.9 million in 2018 with most ($34 million) of this from crocodile skins and $1.3 million from cowhides and skins.
