Rolfes Leather plans African expansion

Marketing director, Quintin Marais, said on making the announcement that Ethiopia’s livestock resources make the leather market there, for bovine, sheep and goat, significantly bigger than South Africa’s. He said: “We have been researching this market segment for the past decade and feel the timing is right for us to run beamhouse trials. While Ethiopia has a large market, its quality of raw materials is mediocre. Our team is perfectly placed to improve processes and help the country to grow its leather sector.”
He explained that Rolfes Leather would take its knowledge of, specifically, automotive leather production processes to Ethiopia with the aim of helping tanners there start producing material for car interiors. He added: “Automotive is by far our biggest market sector and we have gained immense experience in the associated tanning processes. It is exciting to take this knowledge into Ethiopia and assist in growing that market.”
Other African markets in which Rolfes is aiming to expand include Namibia, Kenya and Tanzania.
