Leather chemicals supplier donates to children’s cardiac fundraiser

21/08/2019
A VW Beetle has reached Hungary on its journey from South Africa to Romania, raising money for equipment for a children’s cardiac ward in Johannesburg, and leather chemicals manufacturer Rolfes Leather is among sponsors.

Due to a lack of facilities and a shortage of intensive care nurses, a backlog of 300 children requiring heart surgery has built up at the hospital, according to the Boikanyo Foundation.

Surgeons volunteer their services but equipment and after-care need to be paid for.

The ‘Boikanyo Bug’ car will cross 12 countries including Botswana, Zambia, Malawi, Kenya and Turkey, covering 13 000km, to Brasnov in Romania where it will be raffled at the finish line on August 24.
