VW led the way in global automotive sales in 2018

This put it out in front of Japanese company Toyota, which delivered 10.6 million vehicles. This figure represents growth of 2% compared to 2017. They were the only two manufacturers to break the ten-million mark.
The two leading US carmakers, General Motors and the Ford Motor Company, both recorded a decrease in sales during 2018. During the 12 months, General Motors delivered 8.4 million vehicles, a drop of 12.7% year-on-year. Ford’s sales were down 9% to 6 million vehicles.
Another company that experienced a decline in sales was Japan’s Nissan group which sold 5.7 million cars, down 2.8% year-on-year.
French group Renault, which is in a strategic alliance with Nissan fellow Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi, saw its sales increase 3.2% during the year to 3.9 million vehicles.
Two premium German automobile groups, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, both delivered more than 2 million vehicles in 2018.
