UK’s carmakers renew pleas for certainty

The chief executive of the UK’s Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has said the industry is in a state of unease and will be until a relationship that maintains free and frictionless trade with EU markets can be secured.

The UK automotive industry accounts for £82 billion turnover and £18.6 billion value added, according to SMMT.

More than 30 manufacturers build 70 models of vehicle in the UK supported by 2,500 component providers.
