18/12/2018
There were sessions in Chennai, Kanpur, Kolkata and Ranipet and the seminars attracted an average of 350 people each time, with speakers from UNIDO, the Leather Working Group, India’s Central Leather Research Institute and campaign group Solidaridad, as well as Stahl.
Topics included safety & occupational health and the improvement of the environmental footprint of tannery operations in India.
Stahl presented news on chemicals management, including information on how the ZDHC Gateway portal will work, and looked also at the recently agreed rules around lifecycle assessment calculations for leather manufacturing.
“We were pleased but not surprised by the high attendance at our seminars this year”, said Tuncay Deriner, general manager of Stahl India. “It indicates the importance of these topics for the local tanning sector.” The company’s sustainability director, Michael Costello, said Stahl is committed to the seminar programme, which he described as an excellent vehicle for promoting good practice.
