ALLPI aims to equip Ethiopia’s shoemakers

The Africa Leather and Leather Products Institute (ALLPI), formerly known as COMESA-LLPI, held a leather footwear design and craftsmanship training course in Addis Ababa from October 8-12.

The course was open to selected SME’s from the Ethiopian capital and from a number of other regions in the country.

The main objective of the training was to develop the capacity of Ethiopian footwear companies to add value to their products going for export. It also aimed to give those participating a better understanding of export market requirements and to help them meet local, regional and global demands with their products. 

The topics covered included advanced footwear design, prototype shoemaking and fashion trend forecasting. The training also discussed manufacturing defects in leather shoes, material selection and how to deal with customer complaints.
