Tanning machinery advances need to be promoted, say Italian players

In a market that evolves responsibly, the ability to combine craftsmanship and technological progress is fundamental, said Simone Giuntini from Gozzini. "Innovation and cutting-edge industrial processes should not be perceived in contrast with craftsmanship,” he said. “Indeed, craftsmanship can be enhanced by the technology and by the standardisation of some procedures.”
Domenico Castiello, director of Poteco tanning institute in Santa Croce, said: “We need to raise awareness among both the players in the leather supply chain and the end consumer of the scope of the concept of eco-compatibility, which affects not only the composition of a product, but also its entire history: how and where that product was made, with which machinery, using which processes and resources.”
