Al-Futtaim has a range of operational divisions, one of which is automotive. Its automotive operations extend to markets across the Middle East, Africa and South Asia.
As part of the deal with Renault, Al-Futtaim’s automotive subsidiary in Pakistan will establish a state-of-the-art manufacturing and assembly plant in Karachi and will exclusively distribute Renault cars in the country.
For its part, Renault will offer its latest products and technological know-how. It will mark the group’s first entry into the Pakistani market.
Renault has said the final deal remains subject to a number of conditions, mainly relating to relevant regulatory approval from the Pakistani authorities.
The partners hope to begin construction of the plant in Karachi in the first quarter of 2018 with car sales expected to start in 2019 before ramping up in 2020.
