Renault fulfils French promise with Italian leather

French automotive brand Renault has turned to Italian leather to help fulfil a promise it made last year.

Renault said at the time of the launch of the fifth generation of its Espace model at the Paris motor show in October 2014 that it wanted to reclaim a place in the premium segment, offering at the same time what it referred to as “a redefinition of French luxury”.

Its first steps down this path were to release limited-edition versions of some of its cars, including Espace, under a new brand called Initiale Paris. Now, under the Initiale Paris name, it has launched a range of elegant, high-end leathergoods for women and men.

There are eight pieces in the collection including a wallet and card-holder, a laptop case, an overnight bag and a larger week-end bag.

Renault said it had chosen 100% Italian veg-tanned leather for the Initiale Paris collection, in black with touches of plum, to emphasise sobriety. For now, the collection is available exclusively in the Atelier Renault on the Champs-Élysées in Paris.
