France imports more leathergoods, but China’s share is down

21/12/2016
France’s Conseil National du Cuir (CNC) has confirmed that, as well as an increase of 10% in the value of the country’s leathergoods exports in the first nine months of 2016, imports of leathergoods into France also increased over the same period, by 4%.

Overall, leathergoods imports had a value of just over €2.6 billion, with handbags contributing just over €1 billion and small leathergoods €311.1 million. CNC said there had been an increase in the quality of goods imported.

China’s 36% share of the total represents a 4% reduction for that country of origin, CNC has said. Over the nine-month period, just over 8 million Chinese leather handbags were imported into France.
