Handbags remain the “export star” for the French leather industry

French industry association the Conseil National du Cuir (CNC) has confirmed that leathergoods exports rose 10% in value in the first nine months of 2016, while the figure for footwear exports registered a rise of 7% year on year. Tanners exported semi-finished and finished leather with a value that was 4% above that of the first nine months of 2015.

Handbags remain what CNC called the sector’s “export star”. Over the nine-month period, French manufacturers exported 4 million leather handbags, which represents an 8% increase in volume year on year. These products had a combined value of almost €2.4 billion, an increase of 7%, and the average export price for each leather bag was €387.95.
