Automotive seating supplier Lear Corporation is to construct a state-of-the-art leather processing plant in the Chinese city of Yangzhou. It is the result of an investment agreement with the Administrative Commission of Yangzhou Economic & Technological Development Zone.

The facility is a response to Lear’s rapid sales growth and new business development in China. It will employ approximately 300 people in 2018, rising to 700 when it reaches its full capacity. Lear has reserved adjacent land for future expansion.

Jay Kunkel, president of Lear’s Asia-Pacific division, said that the company’s sales in China have grown at an average annual rate of 17% over the last three years. He added that Lear now have more than 20,000 employees in the region across 81 locations, including 47 in China.

“Lear is pleased to build upon its global capabilities and expand its significant presence in China to better serve our customers in the region," said Ray Scott, president of seating at Lear.
