Indonesia targets self-sufficiency in beef within next decade

Indonesian President Joko Widodo says the country is “on the right track” to achieving self-sufficiency in beef cattle within the next nine to ten years. He said that all the required “preparations” were in place to achieve this target.

President Widodo made these comments during a visit to the Karya Anugrah Rumpin (KAR) cattle breeding farm in Bogor, West Java, where he praised “the upstream process of cattle breeding”.

He warned that there is a risk of the target being missed if the development of the cattle industry isn’t managed carefully and insisted that “there must be assistance” for Indonesian farmers.
