Java to have new port devoted to cattle shipments

Australian port operator National Port Corporation Limited ( NPCL ) plans to build a designated port for cattle shipments in Indonesia, media there have reported.

Located in Banten, the westernmost province on the island of Java, the new facility will aim to meet the beef import needs of the province. Banten’s head of agriculture, Agus Tauchid, was quoted as saying: “Between 30% and 40% of beef demand in Banten is currently supplied from outside the province, from Lampung, East Java, Central Java, West Java, and so on.”

Local governor, Rano Karno, visited Australia in early May to follow up on investment plans.
