Leather chemicals company Trumpler organised a leather training course for students from China’s Jiaxing University, Shaanxi University of Science and Technology and Sichuan University.

A decision was made to include the three universities to encourage leather students across China to get to know each other better. Thousands of messages, photographs and videos have been shared between Trumpler and university staff and the students, said Trumpler.

The training course covered leather manufacture from raw skins to finished leather, using Trumpler chemicals and recipes and raw materials sponsored by Trumpler. Sheepskins and calfskins were processed and the students experienced beamhouse and tanyard operations, dyehouse operations and finishing techniques.

Yang Peiqiang, of Jiaxing University, hosted the opening ceremony with support from senior engineering and leather department figures, Prof Yi Honglei and Prof.Chen Fengxia. Attendees from the Sichuan and Shaanxi Universities included professors He Youjie and Zhou Hualong, and Qiang Xihuai.

Trumpler said its hope to repeat programme as part of its efforts to support the sustainability of the leather industry by training the next generation of technicians and technologists.
