Superior says production at Mégisserie Hervy will start again in June

Santa Croce based tanning group Superior has confirmed to World Leather that production at French small skin tannery Mégisserie Hervy, which the Italian leather producer has acquired and is reviving in partnership with luxury brand Prada, will begin again in June.

Mégisserie Hervy, based near Limoges, specialises in lambskin production, while the Superior tannery in Tuscany specialises in calf. Managing director, Stefano Caponi, told World Leather that, although its former owners had to close Mégisserie Hervy in 2013, it had run successfully for around 30 years before that.

“There are people there with know-how and experience of working with small skins,” Mr Caponi said. “The machinery and the tanning systems for working with small skins were already in place there, so it has been easier to resurrect the tannery than it might have been otherwise.”

He said that by the time production is running again, it will have taken him eight or nine months to complete the project.
