Counting Chanel, Vuitton, Bottega Veneta, Longchamp and Hermes among clients, it is struggling to find skins without scratches or scars.
"We need nearly 15,000 skins per month, or 15% of the national herd," said Jean-Christophe Muller, president of the tannery.
While 90% of skins are sourced from France, it is increasingly working with suppliers in Switzerland, the Netherlands and Eastern Europe, building relationships with farmers to help it gain access to good skins.
Mr Muller added that consumer demand is also changing: "Tomorrow, customer demand for vegetable-tanned leather might be greater than for the chromium-based.”
The company has an estimated turnover of €32 million and has doubled its production in the past 15 years
