Australian police clamp down on cattle theft

Police in Australia have launched specialised training to help them deal with cattle theft in Queensland, which reportedly costs producers $1.5 million to $2 million a year.

As part of the initiative, they have launched an app that farmers can use to take photos of vehicles, or of anyone acting suspiciously around their properties.

Rural Crime Investigation Squad state co-ordinator Mick Dowie said: "You can send photos using the app and then we've got it recorded straight away. We're hoping to remove some of the communication barriers for people in remote areas."
