Furniture retailer sues manufacture over ‘bonded leather’ complaints

Australian furniture retailer Kane’s is suing a US-based manufacture after “excessive” customer complaints about ‘bonded leather’ sofas.

The material - which is less than 20% leather and is usually made from a pulp made of shredded leather on a textile backing with a polyurethane coating - started to crack and flake, prompting customers to demand refunds.

ABC News has reported that the store will no longer sell bonded leather.

A Kane’s spokesperson, Lisa Brock, said: “We know that it's happening industry-wide and we're not the only retailer dealing with this problem. And unfortunately you have to escalate the problem-solving when the problem doesn't get solved."
