Xinji tanneries begin to reopen
Tanneries in Xinji are slowly beginning to reopen, according to the author of our German market intelligence report.
In May, we reported that tanneries in the Xinji leather zone in China’s Hebei province fell foul of the government’s environmental controls.
A report on the China Leather Industry Association’s website said the city’s deputy mayor issued a report on May 21 stating that tanneries that failed an inspection were to close immediately.
Our German Perspective contributor heard of the reopenings from sources in in China, and said it is good news for hides and skins sellers as those tanneries are now looking for inventory.
