China: CLIA launches water-saving ‘roadmap’

13/08/2014
Information has been released about a China Leather Industry Association (CLIA)-organised seminar where a plan to reduce water usage and emissions at the country’s tanneries was discussed.

At a meeting of tanners, chemists and academia in Chengdu, CLIA president Su Chaoying and deputy secretary general Chen Zhanguang said preserving energy and reducing emissions through innovation will be a key focus for the industry going forward.

Tanners are expected to collaborate with universities and chemical companies to create a framework for the industry that will be then adopted countrywide.

The government closed tanneries deemed too polluting, particularly in Hebei province, at the start of this year.
